Biography
Alexandra John, a brother and sister duo, are not only real-life twins born on the same day but also musical twins. Their early bond has shaped their lives and led them to develop an infectious brand of Indie Electro Pop that encompasses both feminine and masculine energies.
Raised in a musical household in San Francisco, Liza and Weston Cain have music flowing through their DNA. Liza, who spent much of her childhood engaged in performing arts, singing, acting, dancing & also playing the piano. Weston, a seasoned instrumentalist, began playing the drums at the age of four and later picked up other instruments such as the guitar and piano.
Together, as Alexandra John, Liza and Weston create music that inspires and illuminates the soul. Through their music, Alexandra John addresses universal struggles, including anxiety, addiction, grief, and loss. Their debut single “Demons” encapsulates these struggles and recognizes that everyone has their own demons.
Their second single, “Strung Out,” delves into the theme of repeatedly seeking resolution but ending up back where one started. Whether it’s in romantic relationships or substance-related issues, self-sabotage and subconscious desires for self-destruction are prevalent. The realization often comes after exhausting oneself and realizing that the person, thing, or place one relied on for comfort was the source of suffering all along.
“Lock Me Down,” Alexandra John’s third single, combines both the female and male perspectives within the disposable climate of modern-day dating. It explores the idea that we often desire what we cannot have and frequently struggle to identify our true desires. The song merges old-school rock with new-school electropop elements.
Their debut EP, titled “Healing,” was released on December 9th, 2022. The concept for the EP originated during the pandemic, as they mourned their old lives and embraced the new. According to Liza, “Healing” encapsulates the universal process of grieving, from denial to acceptance. Each song on the EP represents a layer of acceptance, reflecting the growth experienced during the tumultuous yet beautiful journey of life, as described by Liza & Weston.
Continuously expanding their sound, Alexandra John has just newly released their new single, “Lonely Night,” on Friday, June 9th, 2023. Drawing inspiration from the timeless music of past decades and the influences of their upbringing, they aim to infuse their sound with nostalgia while offering a fresh perspective.
Currently based in Los Angeles, Alexandra John draws influence from legendary artists such as Earth, Wind & Fire, Bee Gees, Chaka Khan, and Stevie Wonder, as well as newer influences like Daft Punk, Calvin Harris, Dua Lipa, Dabeull, and SJ Lewis. They remain committed to pushing sonic boundaries while staying true to their authentic roots.
